Where science and the art of creating innovative gas management products come together to produce products that are simple, robust, and efficient. Becoming an industry leader requires dedication, determination and a desire to challenge the status quo. VATN strives to be expert in gas transfer within the aquaculture and wastewater treatment industries. Specifically, we are skilled in designing equipment that transfers air, commercial oxygen (liquid, PSA, and VSA generated), or ozone into water without exceeding fish-based total dissolved gas pressure limits. Further, VATN has expertise in developing and applying new methods for carbon dioxide stripping, carbon dioxide scrubbing and absorption. Outside of gas transfer, VATN’s product set includes alternative treatment options/equipment needed in comprehensive treatment programs including solids management (NP Innovation microscreens), biofiltration and Ultraqua UV light disinfection.
Project Focus
VATN is focused on identifying limiting issues with your water and applying the most appropriate solutions in both a timely and cost-effective manner. VATN offers you over 80 years of aquaculture and wastewater experience. We welcome the opportunity to work with you and your team to apply or develop the correct treatment solution for your unique site.

Dr. Barnaby J. Watten organized VATN Science and Technology LLC (VATN) in 2019 following retirement as a senior scientist from the US Department of Interior. His work there focused on reducing the labor, energy and water requirements of the USFWS National Fish Hatchery program. Research topics included RAS design, oxygenation, TGP control, CO2 stripping, rearing unit hydraulics, biological filtration and dissolved gas instrumentation. See attached his CV for a more detailed description of his capabilities and contributions throughout his 46 years of service to the industry. As Chief Scientist and General Manager of VATN, Barnaby’s current role includes identifying client water treatment needs, then applying reactor performance algorithms to identify required equipment designs that act to minimize operating costs as well as maintenance while achieving target treatment objectives. Barnaby has also been heavily involved in assisting customers in research and development efforts needed to refine or develop new treatment technologies. VATN also maintains its own in-house R&D program.
